Our History

In 1986, the firm of Purcell Balfe & Webb was created from a merger of three well-established Bayside legal firms: John H Warren & Webb (practising in Sandringham since the early 1930’s), Polkinghorne & Webb (practising in Hampton since the 1940’s), and Purcell Balfe & Co (established in Hampton in the early 1970’s and then practising from a second office in Chesterville Road Moorabbin from 1986).

In early 2001, Purcell Balfe & Webb separated into two firms of which one was Balfe & Webb (with offices in Hampton and Moorabbin). Following the death of Tim Webb in late 2001, the operations of the Hampton office of Balfe & Webb were consolidated into the Moorabbin office where the firm remained until its move in October, 2022 to Boundary Road Dingley.

From its earliest beginnings under John H Warren in the 1930’s to its current operations under Greg Lay as principal, the practice has proudly provided the full suite of legal services, advice and support to the Bayside community and to the broader Melbourne southeast area.
